Have you ever eyed sake on the drinks menu, but didn’t know where to start? Picked up a bottle and puzzled over it? The world of Japanese sake is vast, fascinating and complex. There are about five thousand sake brands, of numerous varieties and styles. It’s been drunk for roughly two millennia, yet has only recently found its way into Western-world bars. Come along, open your eyes and taste buds to a delicious, versatile, über cool drink.
You’ll learn what sake is, how it is made, the main types and styles, and which varieties you’ll most likely enjoy drinking. We’ll bust myths, end the label confusion and have you knowing your way around a menu. And you’ll learn how to purchase, store and serve sake. (Hot or cold? Get a definitive answer on that dilemma, too!)
Then, the tasting. We’ll be serving up 4 superb sakes that will highlight the differences between styles, production regions and grades. Special thanks goes to Chef’s Armoury for sourcing some top shelf ones. Based on what you like, our teacher can give you a shortlist of premium brands that are available for purchase here in Australia.
