Have you ever listened to your hands as they work? Breathed through your skin?
You’ll start with a ball of clay and end up with a cup, but in between is the best bit; making. Angie will help you explore the process, the sensations as you pinch, squeeze, hold and imprint your cup, and the interplay between your mind and hands.
The basics of clay, and how it reacts to you and your surrounds. The technique to centre, build walls, and smack the cup into shape. We’ll pause to review the sensations of making, and compare them to the ideas of Wabi-sabi, the ‘arts & crafts movement’, and outsider art. We’ll listen for any shift in how happy we are with our pinch cups.
After the class Angie will fire your work, and a fortnight later return it to Cowbell 808 for you to collect.
I’m Angie. I’m good at making things with clay and get such a thrill out of teaching. Every class brings an exotic mix of shapes and forms, anything goes. By day, I work in advertising and by night and early morning you’ll find me potting in our backyard studio. You can see some of my work at Ode Ceramics. I also teach the Make your Alter Ego class with Laneway Learning.
