Feel free to bring along swatches of cloth, or old clothes, that you can cut up to make your eco owl.
Create your own adorable, eco friendly owls! Newtown based Mintchi Designs have come up with an original design for you to make with Laneway Learning. Your little owl can be used as a talisman or a keepsake for someone to remember you by. Make one or all three designs using simple techniques such as gluing and hand stitching.
Joana will provide a selection of owl patterns to work with and you can explore your creativity to play around with different patterns, colours and textures. We will provide swatches of recycled fabrics but please bring your own to share. Use pieces of cloth that mean something to you, an old piece of that dress you wore to a special occasion or a top that you can’t bear to part with, that no longer fits! And if you don’t finish all three Mintchi owls in class you can take the patterns home to finish at your leisure.
Joana Mintcheva’s aim is ‘conscious creativity’ and this is the ethos of her brand Mintchi. After 7 years in the fashion industry and dealing with overseas manufacturers Joana decided that it was time to bring it back to basics and create with the hands, eliminate pollution and mass production and be able to have true creative expression with an individual and creative product which doesn’t impact and harm our environment. She decided to take a leap and start her brand Mintchi, which started with her classic owl. All her products are hand-made in Newtown, Sydney and are inspired by the suburb’s unique character and vibrant lifestyle.
