Come and spend an evening with former television broadcaster Indira Naidoo, as she presents a talk about one of the passions in her life – Community gardening. You will also gain tips on how you can grow your own sustainable and edible garden, even in small balcony spaces.
Indira will provide an inspirational collection of stories of ‘green guerrillas’ all over the country on a mission to convert wasted urban land into productive spaces to grow food. She has even written 2 books about it – The Edible City and The Edible Balcony.
This presentation will follow her amazing journey to some of Australia and the world’s most innovative and memorable urban green spaces and the wonderful communities tending them. The communities span the award-winning Wayside Chapel Rooftop Garden, and Beehive in Potts Point Sydney, to the rooftop worm farm above Melbourne restaurant Mesa Verde and Fitzroy Community Garden and around the world.
Indira will also talk about how to build your own community garden including choosing a location, seeking permission to use it and how, when and what to plant.She also shares vital ‘how- to’ information on seed saving and composting, as well as a bibliography with invaluable resources and references.
Indira is a TV presenter, gardener and writer who has written best sellers known, loved, and used as reference by anyone with a place to grow something – no matter how modest.
