Remind your body what good alignment feels like by using the basic posture, placement and feet exercises of ballet barre technique. We’ll learn a few exercises used for strengthening and balance, identify the tendencies that inhibit good posture, and go home with an idea of how to walk, sit and stand better.
Come with an open mind, a good pair of socks, and clothing that won’t restrict. Yes, it will be a great workout for your legs, feet, abs and glutes… and for the skeptical guys out there, remember how hard yoga was when you eventually gave it a go?
By the end of this class you will know three of the five feet positions used in classical ballet, the difference between a demi plié and a tendu, and how to control your hips through ‘turn out’. You’ll understand better how your body and muscles feel when in good posture.
Elica teaches a weekly beginner ballet class for adults. She has studied both RAD and Cecchetti classical ballet method, and has a particular interest in their anatomical principles. She likes to use music in her classes in a way that helps with concentration and encourages artistic expression.
